EU innovative laser welding technology to a new level
April 14, 2021
Laser technology has been widely used in the welding of plastic parts, by converting light energy into thermal energy in the welding area, where the effective control of thermal energy becomes a key factor. The EU's Seventh Research and Development Framework Program (FP7) provides partial funding, and is coordinated by the Fraunhofer Association of Germany. The European POLYBRIGHT R&D team, which is attended by scientific institutions and industrial companies from several member states of the European Union, has successfully developed a Innovative high-brightness laser beam source and beam shaping technology can weld and shape complex geometric plastic components with high quality and speed, and has a very broad application prospect.
The main breakthroughs of the innovative laser welding technology developed by the R&D team are:
1) Developed two optimized 120-watt mid-IR laser sources with pulse wavelengths of 1567 nm and 1940 nm, respectively;
2) Developed a novel and practical laser beam shaping component, which optimizes the combination of diffractive and refractive optical components (DOE and ROE) to produce a laser beam source similar to M shape;
3) The computer chip automatic control module of the advanced Irradiation process can optimize the distribution of thermal energy in the welding area to enhance the appearance and robustness of the product (Robustness);
4) For the first time, the design concept of infrared wavelength laser beam source adapted to the absorption characteristics of plastic polymer materials is adopted.
In today's world, the application of plastic products is everywhere, from plastics and detergent packaging to household appliances and various consumer electronics, including various components in the automotive industry and aircraft manufacturing. Laser welding technology is the production of plastic products at a high quality and low price. The best choice. The innovative laser welding technology developed by the R&D team will continue to significantly influence the expanding world plastics market.
